Millions of people around the world suffer from poor eyesight and blindness. Seventy-five (75) percent of vision loss cases are preventable or treatable, but many people living in developing countries lack access to preventive care or treatment. Humanity First USA’s Gift of Sight Program not only provides immediate relief to individuals by performing free surgeries and providing care, but also strives to build the capacity of the local health care systems.
In the last several years, Humanity First Gift of Sight program in Guatemala has performed more than six hundred (600) free surgeries and restored vision of people who couldn’t afford the procedures. In addition, several thousands of people have received free eye care and treatments which were not available or affordable by majority if the population.
On October 6, 2018 Humanity First USA’s Gift of Sight arrived in Guatemala for a week-long eye camp. The mission will not only perform surgeries but will also be training the local doctors and nurses on new surgical techniques and eye care.
