Silver Spring, MD, August 26, 2007 --(PR.com)-- A powerful earthquake shook the southern coast of Peru last week for a span of two minutes, leaving hundreds dead and thousands injured. Efforts to aid the victims and destruction wrought by the 8.0 earthquake have begun by Humanity First, USA. With over 500 people dead, over 1000 injured, and an estimated 34,000 homes destroyed, the country is in a dire situation. In addition to the devastating loss of life and property, there is a serious shortage of food, potable water, temporary housing and blankets for the surviving victims that have created an atmosphere of distress, desperation, and chaos. Thus far, Humanity First, USA has deployed a first responder assessment team to the devastated areas in Peru to conduct an initial needs appraisal of the earthquake victims. Based on the information gathered during this phase, Humanity First will formulate an effective plan of action to provide the necessary medical care, supplies, and temporary to mid-term shelters to the victims. Willing donors at this time are also able to contribute funds directly to these efforts by visiting www.humanityfirst.org. About Humanity First, USA
