California Wildfire Relief

In October 2007, the Southern California wildfires displaced close to a million residents from their homes and resulted in damages in the $1billion range. These wildfires have been described as the worst in the state’s history.

Humanity First Approach

Humanity First quickly mobilized a First Responder Team on October 22, 2007 to identify any needs that national relief organizations or state/federal agencies were not been able to fulfill. Humanity First team immediately signed in with the local and state offices for emergency services.

Results

  • Aid in the form of non-perishable food items, water, medicines and toiletry items were distributed to local shelters in partnership with other relief organizations in Orange and San Diego County, namely Orange County Rescue Mission, American Medical Response and American Firefighter Frontline.
  • 2 physicians were on stand by to provide medical services as necessary; however the need for medical services was quickly downgraded.

Next Steps

It was determined that most shelters received adequate aid and supplies, thus the Humanity First relief effort officially concluded on October 30, 2007.
