In a recent effort to aid victims still suffering from the wreckage caused by the 2005 earthquake in northern Pakistan, Humanity First has initiated a water filtration project that is projected to provide water accessibility to 1.26 million people. With Humanity First’s investment of over $232,000 USD into the project, twelve water filtration plants are planned for construction in the devastated region. The one million plus beneficiaries of this new project will be spread out across five towns located near Muzaffarabad, the capital of Kashmir.

The one million plus beneficiaries of this new project will be spread out across five towns located near Muzaffarabad, the capital of Kashmir.

The water purifying technology used for this large scale project, provided by Atlantic Ultraviolet Corporation, can accommodate water flow rates of up to 560 gallons per minute. Humanity First USA and UK are working in collaboration to fund the high powered machinery to be used in the plants. Encompassed in the construction of the water filtration facilities are the 10 x 12 foot rooms to house components for the plants, which amounts to a cost of 2.5 million Pakistani rupees.

The timeframe for this project extends into next year, with the first shipment of materials to be sent by air at the end of June, and the second shipment scheduled for December. Upon completion of the water filtration project, one million people across northern Pakistan will have regular access to clean and sanitary water.
