August 15th, 2007 -- A massive 8.0 magnitude earthquake hit the Southern coast of Peru, taking the lives over 500 citizens with it. Over 1000 injuries have been accounted for, leaving tens of thousands of homes destroyed. Humanity First immediately deployed a First Response Team to alleviate the suffering victims with supplies for food, sanitation, and housing.

With the support of Sr. Juan Carlos Quijandria, Mayor of Guadalupe, and Roberto Bernal, Rotary Club President, Humanity First’s next deployment is scheduled to be on Friday, March 1st, 2008. The team will head to Guadalupe, a small town where the greatest degree of damage was struck. Temporary shelters will be built replacing the collapsed mud bricked homes. These temporary shelters will provide sustainable housing to approximately 100 people in the town of Guadalupe. Aboard this arduous mission, 15 volunteers from University of Virginia have partnered with Humanity First to help with the relief efforts.
