Humanity First USA Executive Director Visits West African Humanity First Organizations


On January 1st, 2013, Munum Naeem, Executive Director of Humanity First USA, traveled to Monrovia, Liberia for a six day trip in West Africa to meet executive bodies of local Humanity First organizations, partner organizations and national government officials. During his trip, he will also be participating in the board meetings of Humanity First Liberia and Humanity First Mali. Mr. Naeem is accompanied on this trip by Humanity First leadership, including Masroor Sajid, Country Director to Liberia and Waleed Khan, Director of Disaster Response and Country Director to Mali.

Mr. Naeem met with Liberian Youth and Sport Minister, Hononrary Mr. Tornorlah Varpillah on January 2nd, 2013. He ensured Mr. Varpillah of Humanity First’s commitment to empower local Liberians through much needed development projects in areas of vocational education, medical clinics and supplies and water pumps projects. They discussed to explore dire projects in underserved areas based on Liberian Poverty Reduction Policy, World Bank and American University assessment reports.

The trip continued with Mr. Naeem visiting sites of current Humanity First projects in Liberia, including the Humanity First Vocational and Technical Institute, the Humanity First Medical clinic, and the communities where the Water for Life program has been implemented. He also traveled to Bomi and assessed this area for potential new Humanity First projects. The team will next travel to Mali to observe current projects and meet with local officials.

Earlier this year in July, Humanity First USA leadership traveled to Mali for four weeks of country strategy evaluation and met with many officials and representatives of the civil society.  As a result of this planning phase, Humanity First has evaluated and restructured many of their projects. In addition to providing educational resources and scholarships in Mali through the Our Kids, Our Future program, Humanity First has strengthened the communities with the Humanity First sewing vocational institute, the Masroor Computer Institute, as well as providing food supplies to families through the ongoing Feed a Family program.The team will continue to evaluate the progress and restrcturing of these projects in hopes to providing to as many Malians as possible.
